Will OJ get parole tomorrow? Where and how to watch his hearing.

July 17, 2017 By Karl 1 Comment

I mentioned in a prior blog that the ALCATRAZ EAST crime museum just opened an exhibit around a new acquisition. The item is the White Ford Bronco that carried a frantic and suicidal O.J. Simpson during one of the most famous televised car chases ever. For this reason alone, millions will be tuned in tomorrow to O.J.’s parole hearing. But, as you know, there are many other reasons to tune in.

I’m going to watch because, tho I’m a dispassionate criminologist regarding most topics, I have a bone to pick with parole. You see, I was victimized by a murderer given early release (parole) from a life sentence. I’m writing about it in my next book, Four Murders and a Funeral.

Things you need to know about O.J.’s case.

O.J. Simpson has been locked up since 2008. He is currently at the remote Lovelock Correctional Facility in Lovelock, Nevada. Simpson is 70 today.  F

 Why is he behind bars?

Simpson was sentenced in 2007 after being found guilty of robbing two men in Las Vegas for hundreds of items of sports memorabilia. Simpson claimed that he was trying to get things that were his, but he took items that were not tied to him. Furthermore, one of Simpson’s accomplices brandished a weapon. Simpson was actually granted parole on five counts (burglary, two counts of kidnapping, two counts of robbery) in July 2013, but the use of a deadly weapon count was upheld until at least 2017.

What’re his chances and where might he go?

According to some legal experts Simpson has good odds of being cleared of his remaining counts Thursday. Four of the seven members of the Nevada parole board will be present, and for parole to be granted they must unanimously vote to give it to Simpson.

Should he be granted parole, he is eligible to get out of prison on Oct. 1 at the earliest, though Nevada authorities do not have to announce his release date. The hearing is taking place in Carson City, Nevada, in front of the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners.

If Simpson is granted his early release, he’ll likely be able to leave Nevada, but he must keep in touch with his parole officer and the the parole board in the state where he decides to live upon release. This is critical! Proper supervision doesn’t always exist as in my paroled murderer’s case. It can cause havoc and can have tragic consequences.

On to the where and the how regarding tomorrow’s hearing.

Watch O.J. Simpson’s hearing.

Forfull details of the Simpson hearing, you can follow this link.

ESPN is among the networks that will air pool coverage of Thursday’s event.

CBS Sports will be streaming the hearing live here.

  • Date: Thursday, July 20

And Fox News will cover the hearing.

Fuhrman to Analyze  Parole Hearing for Fox News

According to Tony Maglio , former LAPD Det. Mark Fuhrman is set to cover the hearing for Fox News. Fuhrman “will provide contributions and analysis” to the cable network’s coverage. Geraldo Rivera will take on a similar role.

Fuhrman was a key part of the 1995 trial in which Simpson was eventually acquitted in the murders of O.J.’s ex-wife Nicole Brown-Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. The cop had handled evidence in the case. However, the ex-cop’s past use of racial slurs proved problematic for prosecutors in  the  so-called “Trial of the Century”

What do you think of the practice of parole?

Has it helped you or a loved one?

Has it hurt you or someone you know?

Seven Psychopaths – McDonagh’s comedic film

This website  covers an important term used by most of us at one time or other: psychopath. Unlike other blogs of mine here and here, this post delves into a comedic take on the term and subject of psychopathy. So, here without further ado or comment is a recent movie review by Brian … [Read More...]

Again, Baldwin and Armorer named in ‘Rust’ legal case.

I recently posted my skepticism about whether justice would be served in the settlement Alec Baldwin made with Halyna Hutchins husband and son. The deal, valid in its provision for support of her son, seemed odd since it also allow Baldwin and other financiers to resume shooting of 'Rust."Apparently … [Read More...]

Implicit Bias against People with Facial Differences?

Implicit bias is a phrase for the idea that we're all probably at least a little bit biased, even if we really don't want to be. It's a term that describes what's happening when, despite our best intentions and without our awareness, stereotypes and assumptions creep into our minds and … [Read More...]
