‘Bombshell,’ #MeToo, and Hollywood’s inability to portray its own villains.

#MeToo Pics of 3 actresses

As promised I will share your questions and comments and update mine now that I’ve seen Bombshell and thought about the #MeToo tie-in. First, I was dazzled by Theron's spot on depiction of Megyn Kelly. And the movie kept my interest and my companion's. Mostly, though, my concern in my prior blog - that Bombshell might gloss over institutional #MeToo issues - was unfortunately borne out. Additionally, I kept thinking,  is Hollywood the best industry to lecture us about #MeToo behaviors,  … [Read more...]

Bias against women explored by Bombshell. Does it do #MeToo justice?

December 21, 2019 By Karl 4 Comments

Bias,Bombshell, #MeToo with stars Theron & Kidman & their realife counterparts

Over two years ago, the flood gates of the #MeToo movement starkly revealed the predation, bias and discrimination women still face in workplaces. The  first accusations against Harvey Weinstein transformed a small hashtag enterprise started by a lone black woman into #meToo today...and helped bring about Bombshell. In the movie Nicole Kidman plays  former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, and Charlize Theron portrays  superstar anchor and personality, Megyn Kelly. Margot Robbie is a … [Read more...]

Cleft Joaquin Phoenix strikes again – Joker.

Cleft Joaquin Phoenix -before and after makeup.

Evil teaches us to livE: — this anadrome** comes to mind when I think of cleft Joaquin Phoenix — the fictional miserable life of Batman's Joker generates evil — the real "miserable life" of Phoenix generates great art about evil and good. What comes to mind re the movie Joker is less relevant: another  star vehicle for Phoenix the biggest-grossing October launch ever, $90 million in first 2 days a "scary movie" with tons of violence that's forced many theaters to hire cops … [Read more...]

Well, here's a tutorial that might help you flesh out some details in an article or book you're writing. It's about a few of the deets about both a known killer and an unknown one. Known and Unknown Beauty Queen Killers There are a few books about the known "Beauty … [Read more...]

Discrimination, Blackface and the Bullying Connection.

February 2, 2019 By Karl Leave a Comment

Worries about discrimination and racism are at the heart of efforts to get Virginia Governor Ralph Northam to resign from office. But did you know there's a connection to bullying in all this? More on this later, but first the controversy. Northam's 1984 med school yearbook page shows a picture of a person in blackface and another wearing a Ku Klux Klan hood . . . next to different pictures of the then doctor-governor-to be. Discrimination and racism. Northam's many critics feel that 1) … [Read more...]

Honoring Martin Luther King, Painting, and Writing.

January 20, 2019 By Karl 3 Comments

5 head portraits of Martin Luther King, Jr.

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and his holiday in the U.S., I've added paintings I did of '60s & '70s American  heroes to my gallery. Most all of these heroes were assertive, yet nonviolent, agents for change and justice. The possible exception is Dag Hammarskjold whose United Nations peacekeepers around the world had to defend themselves, sadly, with armed force on occasion. I painted these and other works at an artists' commune in a warehouse, which is featured in the book I'm … [Read more...]

How to boost the CLEFT HEART book and reap rewards.

Book cover of Cleft Heart: Chasing Normal

Thought some of you Cleft Heart book fans might get a kick out of seeing a photo (top right of the collage below) of politicians Pelosi and Schumer under an umbrella in D.C, back in the day. Actually, it's my sister Barbara and me in front of the U.S. Capitol after my dad mustered out of the military as a journalist in Washington, D.C. for the Navy's All Hands magazine. My loving sis  wrote last year about growing up with a brother with clefts here and here. She wanted to add to the book I'd … [Read more...]

“Dissociation (MPD)” resulted as Psychopathic Dad Trafficked her.

I've written a good deal about the violent consequences of psychopathic behavior: here and here. And while I write about some of the the nonviolent consequences in my book Privileged Killers, I've not written about the dissociation result. As many celebrate the great things dads do on … [Read More...]
