April 22, 2020 By Karl Leave a Comment

Ira and Holly

Who're you supporting if your choices are Ira and Holly?             National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) is this week. So is Earth Week which features today, Earth Day, which celebrates its Golden Anniversary. Earth Week There are stories looking at the silver lining of the Covid-19 pandemic. It's the seeming lack of pollution globally. Though some claim hi up atmospheric gases still loom ominously. And there are also stories … [Read more...]

Ira Einhorn, the Unicorn Killer, dies, but lives on in my book.

Ire Einhorn arrested in 1979

One of the murderers in my Privileged Killers and the Psychopaths among us, just died. I've blogged about him from time to time - here for example and with photos here.  Tho his death has been widely reported as due to natural causes, he died of longstanding cardiac problems. His death, allegedly, was  unrelated to the current coronavirus pandemic. .     Nick Arama, writes in NBC Philadelphia that one-time  environmentalist: "Ira Einhorn, 79, has died in prison. Plea bargains, Prisons, Parole — an after-your-arrest Tutorial with Boston Strangler tie in.

November 23, 2019 By Karl 1 Comment

Plea bargains would not have served Strangler victims' interests.

Am close to finishing my latest book, Privileged Killers, where I take plea bargains and parole board decisions to task. These are two phenomena that've dictated court and corrections culture  for years. Hopefully this tutorial will help  writers, criminology students,  true-crime fans, and others understand these topics. Plea bargains are a win-win often. Suspects get to plead guilty to doing something less serious than what they've done in all likelihood. The joke is it's  like copping to  … [Read more...]

Celebrity privilege. See who are among DUI royalty?

August 17, 2019 By Karl 1 Comment

Lindsay Lohan - celebrity privilege?

Celebrity privilege is a type of  "Special treatment!" We know the latter phrase if we grew up with a sib  or if nursery school or kindergarten teachers used it. Parents in the U.S. and early teachers drilled it into our heads—no special treatment, wait your turn, share toys with others. So, it's not surprising that Americans talk about privilege, discrimination, preferential treatment a lot. Preferential crim justice treatment for celebrity privilege? Celebs have long been ordered to … [Read more...]

Rape, Coverups, Bullying—Araoz, Acosta, Epstein

July 13, 2019 By Karl Leave a Comment

Rape allegation.

Another amazing week. US Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta resigned amid the Jeffrey Epstein sex scandal. Pressure mounted against Acosta as news trickled out that he'd allowed an incredibly lenient plea deal to go forward under his watch in Epstein's Florida trial years ago. And then an accusation of rape! Rape. The allegation of rape by a then, 14-15 year old girl, trumped Acosta's fall from grace. In a TODAY interview with Savannah Guthrie, included here, Jennifer Araoz shared … [Read more...]

“Injustice with Nancy Grace.” “Inside Evil” with Cuomo.

Injustice - black n white photo of host Nancy Grace

I don't usually promote new TV shows, esp the many forensic-related ones. However, Injustice with Nancy Grace premieres with a case I lived through in a neighboring town. She covers the initial injustice in a "murder during a murder trial" in Lafayette, Ca. Each episode of “Injustice with Nancy Grace” exposes a riveting case involving wrongful accusations, botched investigations, suppressed evidence, unclear motives, unjust sentences, and a path forward in seeking justice. At … [Read more...]

Credit card type 10 Key things about whiteness

This quiz testing your knowledge of key things about whiteness gives you the answers.  So, don't cheat. I'm posting this because my recent blog about privilege and whiteness showed there's a lot of interest in the topic. Since Aussie Luke Pearson and Sophie Verass put the following post together, you'll encounter some Down-Under spelling and examples. What's interesting is that Australia, as well as many other countries, wrestles with the same issues and problems as the US … [Read more...]

Celebrities Who Killed People -Some Surprises

In one of my recent criminology books,Privileged Killers, I examined a celebrity who killed someone: Ira Einhorn was the wellknown  "Prince of Nonviolence" in Philly in the '60s and '70s and even ran for mayor of the City of Brotherly Love. Einhorn blamed others for killing … [Read More...]

Dissociation

“Dissociation (MPD)” resulted as Psychopathic Dad Trafficked her.

I've written a good deal about the violent consequences of psychopathic behavior: here and here. As many celebrate the great things dads do on … [Read More...]

A Test to see if you have a Psychopath in your Life.

Do you know a psychopath? I certainly do. My latest book, Privileged Killers,  is about a few who crossed paths with me in my everyday life. Not about some whom I encountered as an academic criminologist doing research. For some who've wondered if their partner or a friend might be dangerous … [Read More...]
