Heroes for Father’s Day…and any day.

June 18, 2016 By Karl Leave a Comment

Noticed the following list of America’s top 100 cinematic heroes (and villains). What a perfect topic for Father’s Day, “heroes.” I nominate my dad.

Though my dad never starred in the movies, he did shoot and produce educational films for Coronet Films like “Telling Time,” which taught kids to read a clock. He helped my mother cope with the challenges of my cleft lip and palate. And he helped her raise two other kids.

In The American Film Institute‘s  list below, a “hero” is defined as a character who “prevails in extreme circumstances and dramatizes a sense of morality, courage and purpose. Though they may be ambiguous or flawed, they often sacrifice themselves to show humanity at its best.” All this sounds a lot like my dad, who died young.

AFI’s greatest screen heroes & villains.

AFI’s 100 Years…100 Heroes & Villains is a list of the 50 top movie heroes and 50 top movie villains of all time. It was first generated in 2003 according to criteria noted at the end of the list.

The characters on this list have a made a mark on American society in matters of style and substance. They also elicit strong reactions across time, enriching America’s film heritage while continuing to inspire contemporary artists and audiences.

My latest book, PRIVILEGED KILLERS, is a true story about a half-dozen Dark Triad people in my everyday life - narcissists, manipulators, and psychopaths. Three of 'em murdered people, and one came after my wife and me. Print and e-book versions of this (and CLEFT HEART) available at Amazon and elsewhere online. Also at your local bookstore.

A Test to see if you have a Psychopath in your Life.

Do you know a psychopath? I certainly do. My latest book, Privileged Killers,  is about a few who crossed paths with me in my everyday life.
